The Indian River Lagoon are a habitat for the endangered manatee, although manatees can be seen throughout the Space Coast. Manatees prefer warm waters and migrate to warmer waters during the winter months. They prefer to live in water that is 68 degrees or higher and many find manatees in their backyard canals just waddling around. Be careful if you boat in Brevard as signs are posted to have speeds lowered to protect them. For those not familiar with the manatees, once you see one, you will be amazed.
